This will be super useful, thanks! I was looking for a Toph wig but this tutorial will make it way easier to get the desired shape.

To anyone having difficulty with the black paint soaking into the foam, if you cover the foam with a light layer of artist's gesso, it will prevent the paint from soaking and will save you a lot of time and paint. I haven't tried it on this wig, but I've used it on various types of foam in the past and it shouldn't leave any weird lumps unless you cake it on way too heavy. Hope this helps.

I didnt see when you used the caulk and freezing spray. Do we need them? Also, instead of sinthetic hair, can we use hair extensions or a cut up wig?

You can probably go without the caulk but you definitely need hairspray. You can use extensions or a wig if they're long enough.

would you be ablw to use two wigs for this? instead of the fair fibers? like, stretch the wig over the foam bun? idk. if not, could you explain the hair process again? I'm confused .-.

you could just cut off fibers from a long-ish wig. but that seems like it would be too expensive rather than just buying the fibers. you just take little sections of the wig and wrap it around the foam. i really don't know any other way to explain it :/

the only thing i could think of would be sewing something in the same shape and stuffing it with fiberfill, like a plushie.

Is it possible to use wood glue instead of caulk?

probably you just need to seal the fibers and attach it to the foam

I've actually seen your Toph costume in person, and always wondered how you did the bun..honestly when I first read the tutorial, I'm surprised how lightweight you got it to be. I'm cosplaying Toph myself, and that wig always stumped me, so thank you for posting this great tutorial!! =D

I need to go get more hair dye so ill check their when I go. . But I was thinking that maybe if i got a long wig like this www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006OUE… and sectioned it off in ponytails to a length right under my chin and cut it off and use that as the hair extensions so its the same color maybe that would be a better idea?

Would this work with a styrofoam ball? The foam that you used is very expensive and I just don't have the money for it

the only other thing i could think of would be sewing something shaped like a shower cap to attach to the back of the wig and then stuff it with polyfill, then cover it in hair. not sure how that'd hold up though

Great tutorial! *A*
But.. is it heavy? Well, when I wear also a normal long wig (100 cm) it's very heavy and if I don't use some mastix (is the english word for this? That's the glue that people use for elf's ear) it falls down. šAš
So does you fix it in some way?
